Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Raiders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D-.

Somebody took the Raiders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.

The whole projection now runs through Fernando Mendoza; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Crownover has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher and running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

That Ponds pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 1st overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick20 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick No. 20 they get the heartbeat of the defense at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick36 Rnd2 CJ Allen
They zigged when the board said zag, taking CJ Allen at linebacker with edge rusher and running back open.
Pick67 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
They will replay D'Angelo Ponds at pick 67 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102 Rnd4 Skyler Bell
Skyler Bell in slot 102 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick117 Rnd4 Dametrious Crownover
Dametrious Crownover at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick134 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels in Round 4, Pick 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick146 Rnd5 Gracen Halton
Good price on Gracen Halton in No. 146, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Pick175 Rnd5 Reggie Virgil
Reggie Virgil slipping to the 175th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick182 Rnd6 Marlin Klein
A tidy bit of business in No. 182, where Marlin Klein graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick185 Rnd6 Zane Durant
They read the board right and Zane Durant was the payoff at slot 185. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick208 Rnd6 Chase Roberts
A reasonable price with a little left over, Chase Roberts in the 208th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick219 Rnd7 Jadon Canady
The board had Jadon Canady higher than pick 219, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
