Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

ValueD-

TradesC
FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Steelers, and a C to match. The Steelers spent real capital to be 312 picks early on Matthew Sluka, and the board is going to hold them to it. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.
Getting Singleton Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with running back and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In No. 20 they get a green-dot type in the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick76
Rnd3
Matthew Sluka
This one needs a full-page explanation: Matthew Sluka in the 76th pick, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick78
Rnd3
Taylen Green
Taylen Green at slot 78 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick84
Rnd3
Jackson Arnold
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jackson Arnold. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick99
Rnd3
Rayshaun Benny
A real head-scratcher, Rayshaun Benny in the 99th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick120
Rnd4
Xavier Chaplin
The board fumbled Xavier Chaplin all the way to Round 4, Pick 20, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick135
Rnd4
Connor Tollison
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Connor Tollison while clear needs at running back and tight end sat open.
Pick159
Rnd5
Terry Moore
A safety of that caliber at the 159th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick214
Rnd6
Eric Singleton Jr.
Eric Singleton Jr. at slot 214 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick215
Rnd6
Latrell McCutchin Sr.
Value said wait; Latrell McCutchin Sr. in pick No. 215 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick224
Rnd7
Adepoju Adebawore
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with Adepoju Adebawore worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick236
Rnd7
Keeshawn Silver
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Keeshawn Silver well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
