Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Patriots won the night they stopped Nussmeier from sliding. Grade: C+.

Somebody in No. 200 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Garrett Nussmeier, the No. 74 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.

Every board in the league had Boettcher lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Hit on Eli Stowers and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Eli Stowers
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a mismatch in the passing game, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Pick63 Rnd2 Bryce Boettcher
A real head-scratcher, Bryce Boettcher in slot 63 is miles ahead of his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick95 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
Circle this one: Michael Taaffe at pick 95 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jaeden Roberts
Nice patience on Jaeden Roberts, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick131 Rnd4 Logan Jones
No drama and no debate, Logan Jones went about where he belonged in the 131st pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick169 Rnd5 Harrison Wallace III
A big swing on Harrison Wallace III at pick No. 169, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick189 Rnd6 Mike Washington Jr.
They robbed the room for Mike Washington Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick200 Rnd6 Garrett Nussmeier
Taking Garrett Nussmeier in No. 200 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick207 Rnd6 DJ Harvey
They reached into another round for DJ Harvey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick210 Rnd6 Carson Beck
Carson Beck at the 210th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick247 Rnd7 Dametrious Crownover
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Dametrious Crownover in Round 7, Pick 31, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
