Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C+
ValueC- NeedB TradesC FutureB-
The Patriots did enough to get by: C+.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 186 spots for Raul Aguirre Jr., and value like that does not grow back.

However the rest shakes out, Wheatley at that price is a win they earned. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Jordyn Tyson
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick94 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at slot 94 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick105 Rnd4 Gabe Jacas
They read the board right and Gabe Jacas was the payoff at the 105th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick129 Rnd4 Logan Jones
Logan Jones at pick 129 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick130 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
They went early on Ar'maj Reed-Adams in Round 4, Pick 30, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick169 Rnd5 Malik Hartford
Malik Hartford in pick No. 169 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick191 Rnd6 Damari Brown
They left a pile of value on the table to take Damari Brown this early at Round 6, Pick 10. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick201 Rnd6 Fred Davis II
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Fred Davis II. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick208 Rnd6 Ceyair Wright
Ceyair Wright in pick 208 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick211 Rnd6 Sage Ryan
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sage Ryan well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick246 Rnd7 Raul Aguirre Jr.
Raul Aguirre Jr. at slot 246 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
