The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Steele Chambers, the No. 191 name on the board, sitting there at No. 214 like a gift left on the doorstep. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

They will answer for taking cornerback early while interior defensive lineman and edge rusher went begging. Reaching for Milton III left real value on the table behind him. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
