The Jets got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D+. The Jets bet big and early on Rara Thomas, 298 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. However the rest shakes out, Jackson at that price is a win they earned. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
It is not that Zvada is a bad player; it is that the Jets had louder needs to answer first.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In pick 2 they get a three-down runner. A real need, handled.
Pick16
Rnd1
Dominic Zvada
A surprising call. With quarterback, safety and other spots still to address, they spent No. 16 on Dominic Zvada, a specialist they were not short of.
Pick103
Rnd4
Caden Curry
Caden Curry at the 103rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jayden Ballard
Jayden Ballard at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick178
Rnd5
Rara Thomas
A wild overpay on Rara Thomas in pick No. 178, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick192
Rnd6
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott at slot 192 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick206
Rnd6
Domani Jackson
They barely believed it either: Domani Jackson still on the board at Round 6, Pick 27. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick209
Rnd6
Treydan Stukes
Treydan Stukes at pick 209 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick218
Rnd7
Josh Moten
Josh Moten at No. 218 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick242
Rnd7
Ricardo Hallman
Ricardo Hallman at the 242nd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
