When a board-topper like Chris Paul Jr. slides to the 187th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Falcons did not.

Reaching for Wells Jr. left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
