FutureB-
Larceny in pick No. 145 lands the Falcons a B+, Wilson and all. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Roman Wilson got past him. The Falcons do not have to explain a thing at No. 145. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Burke pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots.
They are betting Thomas proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge. A real need, handled.
Pick44
Rnd2
Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine slipping to the 44th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick72
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Denzel Burke in slot 72 leaves quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Pick108
Rnd4
Graham Barton
They let Graham Barton come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 8. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick145
Rnd5
Roman Wilson
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Roman Wilson in the 145th pick, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick186
Rnd6
Steve Linton
The board had Steve Linton higher than No. 186, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick190
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius in pick No. 190 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick202
Rnd6
Sincere Haynesworth
A reach on Sincere Haynesworth in pick 202; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick229
Rnd7
Theo Johnson
No edge and no loss on Theo Johnson in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick245
Rnd7
Xavier Thomas
They went early on Xavier Thomas in the 245th pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
