The Falcons cashed the board's mistake on Coleman: B. Somebody in Round 3, Pick 10 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Falcons sat still while Keon Coleman, the No. 36 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The cost of the Hall reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes. The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get juice off the edge. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J.J. McCarthy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick48
Rnd2
Roman Wilson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Roman Wilson in the 48th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick74
Rnd3
Keon Coleman
Somehow Keon Coleman was still sitting there in the 74th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in pick 76. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick79
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
They let Kiran Amegadjie come to them and pounced at No. 79. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick108
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
A reach on Tyler Davis in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick142
Rnd5
Dallin Holker
A reach for Dallin Holker in slot 142; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick186
Rnd6
Kamal Hadden
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 11 is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick196
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall in the 196th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
