Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Falcons: B-.

Everything else got attention, and offensive lineman got none. That is a strange way for the Falcons to leave a draft. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

Wiley at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If Lovett pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
In pick No. 8 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 11 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick74 Rnd3 Ja'Lynn Polk
A straight-up fair deal on Ja'Lynn Polk at the 74th pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick87 Rnd3 Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick109 Rnd4 Spencer Rattler
A reach on Spencer Rattler in No. 109; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick143 Rnd5 Kalen King
Fair-plus on Kalen King, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick174 Rnd5 Fabien Lovett
Fabien Lovett at pick 174 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick187 Rnd6 Johnny Dixon
They paid sticker price for Johnny Dixon in the 187th overall pick, and that is fine. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick197 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
They read the board right and Cornelius Johnson was the payoff at the 197th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick216 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
A quiet steal in the 216th overall pick: Jared Wiley for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
