For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The 49ers walked out of the weekend still thin at running back, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

Getting Slaughter where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.

The skill positions did well by the weekend.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
