Cartersincere DRAFTING FOR THEFalcons

Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall
B
ValueA+
NeedB-

FutureB+
The Falcons won the night they stopped Fitzgerald from sliding. Grade: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Falcons were there to profit. Ryan Fitzgerald, the No. 117 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 246. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Falcons indulged a want in Amos while a need in quarterback, wide receiver and other spots stayed open. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
The board fumbled Travis Hunter all the way to pick No. 23, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick46
Rnd2
Shemar Stewart
Shemar Stewart at pick 46 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick87
Rnd3
Trey Amos
A surprising call. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still to address, they spent the 87th pick on Trey Amos, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick117
Rnd4
Alfred Collins
They robbed the room for Alfred Collins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick133
Rnd4
Omarion Hampton
They will replay Omarion Hampton at the 133rd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Pick198
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
They did well to land Luke Lachey in Round 6, Pick 23, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick244
Rnd7
Seth McLaughlin
They barely believed it either: Seth McLaughlin still on the board at slot 244. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick246
Rnd7
Ryan Fitzgerald
Ryan Fitzgerald at No. 246 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
