KDAVIS DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureA+
The Bears let Stutsman fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Danny Stutsman, the No. 95 name on the board, stolen at pick No. 203. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In pick No. 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Value with a capital V on Tate Ratledge in the 39th pick, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick42
Rnd2
Princely Umanmielen
You do not let an edge rusher like Princely Umanmielen reach slot 42 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick73
Rnd3
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick148
Rnd5
Andrew Mukuba
Somehow Andrew Mukuba was still sitting there in the 148th overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick166
Rnd5
Deontae Lawson
The board fumbled Deontae Lawson all the way to Round 5, Pick 28, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick203
Rnd6
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman in pick 203 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick226
Rnd7
Gunnar Helm
A tight end of that caliber at No. 226 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick239
Rnd7
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick244
Rnd7
Deion Burks
They went early on Deion Burks in pick No. 244, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
