Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Seahawks let Howard fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Will Howard got past him. The Seahawks do not have to explain a thing at No. 137. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Fairchild to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick No. 18 they get a security blanket over the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jalon Walker in pick 50, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick52
Rnd2
Jack Sawyer
No drama and no debate, Jack Sawyer went about where he belonged in slot 52. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick82
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaiah Bond in the Round 3 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick92
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
They went early on Dylan Fairchild in the 92nd pick, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick137
Rnd4
Will Howard
Will Howard in No. 137 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick172
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 34 is lovely value for the running back. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick175
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
Fair-plus on Seth McLaughlin, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick223
Rnd7
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
They will replay Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick234
Rnd7
Craig Woodson
Craig Woodson is a better player than pick 234 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
