Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Ravens. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Ravens did exactly that with Donovan Jackson in No. 27.
On value alone, James makes the weekend a net positive. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Donovan Jackson
In the 27th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
They went early on Tate Ratledge in pick No. 59, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick91
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
They took Darius Alexander at par in Round 3, Pick 27, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick129
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
A quiet steal in slot 129: Denzel Burke for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick136
Rnd4
Jordan James
Jordan James slid further than he should have, and the 136th pick is lovely value for the running back. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick176
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at pick 176 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick183
Rnd6
Willie Lampkin
Willie Lampkin at the 183rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick203
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
A straight-up fair deal on KeAndre Lambert-Smith at slot 203, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick210
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick212
Rnd6
Luke Elzinga
A conviction pick on Luke Elzinga at pick 212 that the board grades a round light. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick243
Rnd7
Akili Arnold
They let Akili Arnold come to them and pounced at the 243rd pick. A minor itch, scratched.
