rickydico DRAFTING FOR THEDolphins
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
C+
ValueC-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Dolphins, and a C+ to match. The Dolphins torched the value chart for Riley Leonard, taking him 35 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
They banked enough surplus on Carter to cover a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Hit on Aireontae Ersery and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Aireontae Ersery
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick48
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Fair-plus on Xavier Watts, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick98
Rnd3
Riley Leonard
A big swing on Riley Leonard at No. 98, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick116
Rnd4
Barrett Carter
Steal is underselling it; Barrett Carter at pick No. 116 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick135
Rnd4
Luke Kandra
A real head-scratcher, Luke Kandra in pick 135 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick150
Rnd5
Kurtis Rourke
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 12, with Kurtis Rourke worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick155
Rnd5
LeQuint Allen
Quietly one of the better values of the day, LeQuint Allen at slot 155. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
A reach on Jermari Harris in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick231
Rnd7
Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks in Round 7, Pick 15 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick253
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at No. 253 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
