Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Drew Allar tumbling to the Steelers in No. 159 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.

The Steelers indulged a want in Brailsford while a need in interior defensive lineman and edge rusher stayed open. They will need Beck to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Makai Lemon
In the 21st overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. A real need, handled.
Pick53 Rnd2 Carson Beck
Carson Beck at the 53rd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76 Rnd3 Carter Smith
They paid sticker price for Carter Smith in pick 76, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick85 Rnd3 Emmett Johnson
Emmett Johnson in pick No. 85 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at the 99th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 121 on Parker Brailsford with interior defensive lineman and edge rusher unsolved.
Pick135 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Ar'maj Reed-Adams in Round 4, Pick 35 leaves interior defensive lineman and edge rusher for later.
Pick159 Rnd5 Drew Allar
They robbed the room for Drew Allar here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick213 Rnd6 Jerry Wilson
They took Jerry Wilson at par in the 213th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick214 Rnd6 Peyton Bowen
By-the-book stuff, Peyton Bowen at slot 214 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick224 Rnd7 Lawson Luckie
Lawson Luckie at the Round 7 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick237 Rnd7 Riley Mahlman
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Riley Mahlman at slot 237 is the proof. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
