Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
D

FutureC
The Texans bled value on every deal, hence the D. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but T.J. Sanders at slot 162 is 62 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Kight.
The Trey Smith deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
A reasonable price with a little left over, Luther Burden III in pick 29. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick61
Rnd2
Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II slid further than he should have, and the 61st overall pick is lovely value for the running back. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick64
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
A straight-up fair deal on Colston Loveland at Round 2, Pick 32, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick94
Rnd3
Danny Stutsman
No edge and no loss on Danny Stutsman in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick101
Rnd3
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at pick No. 101 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick116
Rnd4
Shavon Revel Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Shavon Revel Jr. at the 116th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick130
Rnd4
Abdul Carter
Abdul Carter at pick No. 130 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jared Wilson
They talked themselves into Jared Wilson at the 144th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick162
Rnd5
T.J. Sanders
A real head-scratcher, T.J. Sanders in No. 162 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick218
Rnd7
Amari Kight
They will replay Amari Kight at Round 7, Pick 4 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Pick243
Rnd7
Taylen Green
You do not let a quarterback like Taylen Green reach pick 243 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
