Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the 49ers a B+.

The 49ers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Woody Marks, the No. 193 name on the board, in Round 7, Pick 11.

The Sanders pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Caelen Carson pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka slipping to slot 44 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75 Rnd3 Darien Porter
They took Darien Porter at par in No. 75, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick76 Rnd3 Deone Walker
They liked Deone Walker enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 76. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100 Rnd3 Dylan Fairchild
A straight-up fair deal on Dylan Fairchild at pick 100, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick113 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
No drama and no debate, Cam Skattebo went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 11. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138 Rnd4 Mitchell Evans
Mitchell Evans in the 138th pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick147 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
They reached a country mile for Ty Robinson at the 147th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick149 Rnd5 Barryn Sorrell
A wild overpay on Barryn Sorrell in slot 149, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick160 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
They will replay Malachi Moore at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick171 Rnd5 Willie Lampkin
Willie Lampkin in the 171st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174 Rnd5 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in slot 174 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick227 Rnd7 Woody Marks
Woody Marks in pick 227 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick249 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick252 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders at No. 252 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
