Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Steelers cashed the board's mistake on Simon: B+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Steelers were there to profit. Cody Simon, the No. 135 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 225. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Omarion Hampton
In pick No. 21 they get a featured back, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick83 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
They will replay Isaiah Bond at pick 83 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick85 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
The board fumbled Demetrius Knight Jr. all the way to slot 85, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick122 Rnd4 Shemar Turner
Shemar Turner in No. 122 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick163 Rnd5 Kevin Winston Jr.
They barely believed it either: Kevin Winston Jr. still on the board at the 163rd pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick177 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
A premium they did not need to pay, Cobee Bryant a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick225 Rnd7 Cody Simon
Somehow Cody Simon was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A need, and now a little less of one.
