Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
D-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Packers to a D-. The Packers went off the board in a big way for Cobee Bryant, 63 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Alexander pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
They talked themselves into Matthew Golden at the Round 1 slot, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick54
Rnd2
Trey Amos
Trey Amos at the 54th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick59
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at pick No. 59 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick87
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
They paid sticker price for Donovan Jackson in the 87th pick, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant at Round 4, Pick 22 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick160
Rnd5
Darius Alexander
They robbed the room for Darius Alexander here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick200
Rnd6
Upton Stout
The board had Upton Stout higher than slot 200, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick239
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Nothing to complain about; Teddye Buchanan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick251
Rnd7
Logan Parr
They jumped the gun on Logan Parr, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
