FutureB
Nobody dealt better than the Ravens this weekend: B. The Ravens torched the value chart for Cedric Johnson, taking him 51 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They banked enough surplus on Thrash to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick95
Rnd3
Cedric Johnson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cedric Johnson well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick132
Rnd4
Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson at pick No. 132 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jamari Thrash
Jamari Thrash at the 134th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick169
Rnd5
Xavier Thomas
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Xavier Thomas. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick172
Rnd5
Jase McClellan
They talked themselves into Jase McClellan at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick178
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray at Round 6, Pick 3 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick253
Rnd7
Fentrell Cypress II
They robbed the room for Fentrell Cypress II here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
