Draft Grade — Browns
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Browns turned the phones into found money: A-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Browns did exactly that with Will Howard in pick No. 67.

Getting West where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Braden Smith deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Bottom line, with Tyler Warren leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In slot 14 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick33 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Nothing to complain about; Derrick Harmon went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick45 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in Round 2, Pick 13 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick67 Rnd3 Will Howard
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Will Howard well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick80 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
They let Quinshon Judkins come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick94 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Circle this one: Jayden Higgins at the 94th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick104 Rnd4 Ozzy Trapilo
Somehow Ozzy Trapilo was still sitting there in pick No. 104, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick179 Rnd6 Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt at the Round 6 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick192 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
They read the board right and JJ Pegues was the payoff at the 192nd overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick200 Rnd6 Jason Marshall Jr.
Jason Marshall Jr. at No. 200 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick216 Rnd6 CJ West
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at slot 216 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick255 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
Fair-plus on Teddye Buchanan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
