FutureB
The Chiefs cashed the board's mistake on Jones: B+. The rest of the league will want that one back. Christian Jones tumbling to the Chiefs in slot 250 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The cost of the Thomas reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick60
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick No. 60 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick99
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bucky Irving in No. 99. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick128
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
A premium they did not need to pay, Cedric Gray a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick171
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malik Mustapha in pick 171, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jordan Jefferson
A reach on Jordan Jefferson in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick206
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
They reached a country mile for Joshua Gray at the 206th pick, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick249
Rnd7
Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas in slot 249 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick250
Rnd7
Christian Jones
They will replay Christian Jones at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
