Draft Grade — Commanders

The Commanders robbed the room for Kiser. Final grade: B-.

Somebody in the 238th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Jack Kiser, the No. 198 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting Hairston proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Omarion Hampton
In slot 29 they get an every-down engine for the run game at fair value.
Pick61 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in the 61st overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick79 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Tre Harris in No. 79 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick207 Rnd6 Simeon Barrow Jr.
Simeon Barrow Jr. at the 207th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jack Kiser in pick No. 238, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick250 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
They took Torricelli Simpkins III at par in Round 7, Pick 32, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
