Grand theft in No. 138: the 49ers steal Ferguson and grade out a B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Terrance Ferguson, the No. 115 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 138.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Every board in the league had Ezeiruaku lower, and that gap is the story. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In pick No. 11 they get a cornerstone up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
They went early on Donovan Ezeiruaku in the Round 2 slot, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick75 Rnd3 Darien Porter
A straight-up fair deal on Darien Porter at the 75th pick, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick100 Rnd3 Tai Felton
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tai Felton. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick113 Rnd4 Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer in No. 113 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
They barely believed it either: Terrance Ferguson still on the board at the 138th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick147 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
By-the-book stuff, O'Donnell Fortune at pick 147 squarely in line with his ranking. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick160 Rnd5 Tyler Baron
Good price on Tyler Baron in Round 5, Pick 22, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick227 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in slot 227 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick249 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
No edge and no loss on Ty Hamilton in the 249th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick252 Rnd7 Marcus Yarns
Marcus Yarns in pick 252 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
