Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB- TradesB FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Steelers for McCaffrey: B.

You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Steelers spent Round 3, Pick 2 on Sedrick Van Pran while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots sat unaddressed.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The McCaffrey pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In the 27th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value.
Pick52 Rnd2 Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter at No. 52 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick66 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Sedrick Van Pran adds an offensive lineman and leaves quarterback, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick84 Rnd3 Renardo Green
Renardo Green at the 84th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick98 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in Round 3, Pick 35 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick119 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
They took Tyler Davis at par in pick 119, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick154 Rnd5 Nehemiah Pritchett
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nehemiah Pritchett at the Round 5 slot is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick167 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
The board fumbled Luke McCaffrey all the way to slot 167, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick195 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in the 195th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick254 Rnd7 Tyrice Knight
By-the-book stuff, Tyrice Knight at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
