Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Commanders found their guy under center in Nix: B+.

The Xavier Restrepo selection is the head-turner. The Commanders reached 85 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.

The whole projection now runs through Bo Nix; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Bo Nix
In pick 18 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
Value said wait; Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 34 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick42 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul in Round 2, Pick 10 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick50 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
No edge and no loss on T'Vondre Sweat in the 50th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick66 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 66th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick82 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick100 Rnd3 Beau Brade
They paid up for Beau Brade at slot 100 when waiting would have done the job. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick102 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at the 102nd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139 Rnd5 Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo in Round 5, Pick 3 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick180 Rnd6 Ty'Ron Hopper
Value with a capital V on Ty'Ron Hopper in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick223 Rnd7 Erick All
They left a pile of value on the table to take Erick All this early at pick 223. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
