FutureB-
The Steelers let Howard fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. Somebody in the 194th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Steelers sat still while Will Howard, the No. 167 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for McCullough left real value on the table behind him.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tacario Davis
They paid sticker price for Tacario Davis in the 14th pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe slipping to the 46th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick78
Rnd3
Dasan McCullough
A reach for Dasan McCullough in pick No. 78; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick142
Rnd5
David Bailey
By-the-book stuff, David Bailey at Round 5, Pick 14 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick146
Rnd5
Germie Bernard
A clean, defensible pick in pick 146 with a little surplus value in Germie Bernard. The roster fit checks out.
Pick194
Rnd7
Will Howard
They barely believed it either: Will Howard still on the board at the Round 7 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick196
Rnd7
Steve Linton
The board had cheaper options than Steve Linton at No. 196, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick206
Rnd7
Jordan James
They took Jordan James at par in slot 206, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
