Good, not great, for the Eagles: B. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Eagles shredded theirs for Patrick Payton. He came off 55 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Taaffe pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
Nice patience on Jermod McCoy, who had no business lasting to Round 1, Pick 21. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick54
Rnd2
Max Klare
Value said wait; Max Klare in No. 54 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick65
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
They reached into another round for Jaeden Roberts, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84
Rnd3
Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kenyatta Jackson Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick90
Rnd3
Cayden Green
They took Cayden Green at par in the 90th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick120
Rnd4
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe at pick 120 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Pick135
Rnd4
DJ McKinney
DJ McKinney is a better player than No. 135 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick143
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick160
Rnd5
Zane Durant
The board had cheaper options than Zane Durant at pick No. 160, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick168
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Patrick Payton. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick207
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 207th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick213
Rnd6
Barion Brown
A real head-scratcher, Barion Brown in pick 213 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
