KIYOSHI SABERS DRAFTING FOR THEEagles

Draft Grade — Eagles

FutureB-
The Eagles turned the phones into found money: B. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jalen Rivers at the 226th overall pick is 143 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Warren value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
A tight end of that caliber at No. 39 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick63
Rnd2
Jared Ivey
A conviction pick on Jared Ivey at pick 63 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick66
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
They paid sticker price for Elic Ayomanor in pick No. 66, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick73
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
Denzel Burke at Round 3, Pick 9 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick94
Rnd3
Smael Mondon Jr.
They went early on Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick134
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malachi Moore. It fills a real need, too.
Pick148
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
They took Trevor Etienne at par in slot 148, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick161
Rnd5
Vernon Broughton
They talked themselves into Vernon Broughton at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick164
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 164th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick165
Rnd5
Hayden Conner
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hayden Conner in Round 5, Pick 27, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick168
Rnd5
Jalen Travis
Jalen Travis at pick 168 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick226
Rnd7
Jalen Rivers
Jalen Rivers in No. 226 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
