Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
C+
ValueD
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Panthers get a C+. The Panthers did not so much draft Oluwafemi Oladejo as overpay for him, 124 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The final tally is a middling C+.
Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They banked enough surplus on Noel to cover a lot of smaller sins.
If Landon Jackson and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Landon Jackson
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get a premier pass rusher, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick57
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
Azareye'h Thomas in the 57th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick74
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
Value said wait; Ashton Gillotte in the 74th pick says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jaylin Noel
Jaylin Noel at slot 111 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick114
Rnd4
Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo at pick No. 114 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick140
Rnd5
Fadil Diggs
A big swing on Fadil Diggs at pick 140, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick146
Rnd5
Ahmed Hassanein
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ahmed Hassanein this early at pick No. 146. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick163
Rnd5
Davin Vann
A real head-scratcher, Davin Vann in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick227
Rnd7
Clay Webb
Clay Webb at the 227th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
