Nobody dealt better than the Bears this weekend: A-. There is reaching, and then there is Darius Robinson at the 116th pick. The Bears jumped the board by 39 and dared it to prove them wrong. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
Bottom line, with Olumuyiwa Fashanu leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick No. 8 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In pick 9 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick21
Rnd1
Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman in the 21st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick40
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J.J. McCarthy. The roster fit checks out.
Pick43
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 43 is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick48
Rnd2
Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at the Round 2 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick66
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
No edge and no loss on Javon Bullard in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick75
Rnd3
Trey Benson
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at pick 75, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick114
Rnd4
Brandon Coleman
Brandon Coleman at the 114th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick116
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in the 116th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
