FutureA+
The Bears bet the future on Daniels. The board says D. The Darius Robinson selection is the head-turner. The Bears reached 40 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Malik Nabers
In No. 3 they get a go-to option on the outside. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In pick 9 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick20
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
In the 20th overall pick they get a rangy last line of defense, reach and all. Need was not the driver here.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A reach on Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 50; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick57
Rnd2
Trey Benson
Trey Benson at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick79
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley in the 79th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick114
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at pick 114 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick116
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Darius Robinson well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
