Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall

FutureA+
A franchise passer in Daniels headlines a A- weekend for the Commanders. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
Reaching for Byrd left real value on the table behind him. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman still on the board. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jayden Daniels and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In the 5th overall pick they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
They let Brian Thomas Jr. come to them and pounced at pick No. 36. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick37
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 37 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick43
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in slot 43 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie in the 67th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick82
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They paid up for Khyree Jackson at the Round 3 slot when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick100
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
A want over a need in Round 3, Pick 37: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
Pick105
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at No. 105 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter is a better player than slot 117 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick149
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
A tidy little value on Tommy Eichenberg in Round 5, Pick 13, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick152
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
Nothing to complain about; Jacob Cowing went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick214
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Frank Gore Jr. at pick 214, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick222
Rnd7
Solomon Byrd
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Solomon Byrd. A need, and now a little less of one.
