Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureA
The Commanders turned the phones into found money: A-. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Commanders, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend.
Gore Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That Ransom pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The Deebo Samuel deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Taliese Fuaga and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
They did well to land Taliese Fuaga in pick No. 31, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick37
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
Fair-plus on JT Tuimoloau, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick68
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
Nothing to complain about; Denzel Burke went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick100
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at Round 3, Pick 37 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104
Rnd4
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in pick 104 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick141
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
A tidy little value on Jordan Travis in the 141st overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick182
Rnd6
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom is a better player than the 182nd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick225
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
A real head-scratcher, Frank Gore Jr. in Round 7, Pick 5 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
