Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA- FutureB+
The Lions kept it disciplined and banked a B.

The Lions clearly saw something nobody else did in Kamran James, taking him 99 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. On value alone, Hunter makes the weekend a net positive.

The Ahkello Witherspoon pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a blindside protector, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick50 Rnd2 Jadarian Price
They liked Jadarian Price enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 50. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick93 Rnd3 Lee Hunter
Taking Lee Hunter in pick 93 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick118 Rnd4 Vincent Anthony Jr.
Vincent Anthony Jr. at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick134 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
A slide stopped in the 134th overall pick, with Michael Trigg worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick156 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
A reach on Aamil Wagner in slot 156; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick187 Rnd6 Kamran James
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kamran James well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick204 Rnd6 Antonio Kite
A reasonable price with a little left over, Antonio Kite in the 204th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick222 Rnd7 Thomas Collins
Thomas Collins at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick256 Rnd7 Haynes King
Haynes King in pick 256 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
