FutureB-
The Patriots drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: B+. The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Murphy falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The James reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kamari Lassiter in pick No. 34. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick79
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
No edge and no loss on Malachi Corley in pick 79; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick103
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at the 103rd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick182
Rnd6
Grayson Murphy
Value with a capital V on Grayson Murphy in No. 182, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick224
Rnd7
Jha'Quan Jackson
Jha'Quan Jackson slid further than he should have, and the 224th pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jeremy James
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jeremy James this early at Round 7, Pick 12. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
