Dukez2020 DRAFTING FOR THEChargers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Chargers: B-. The Chargers bet big and early on Shaun Dolac, 49 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Getting Gordon II where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 22 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55
Rnd2
Zy Alexander
No edge and no loss on Zy Alexander in Round 2, Pick 23; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick86
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
A quiet steal in the 86th overall pick: Quinshon Judkins for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick124
Rnd4
Jonah Monheim
They reached a country mile for Jonah Monheim at No. 124, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick159
Rnd5
Darius Alexander
They will replay Darius Alexander at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick177
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant in slot 177 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick183
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed in Round 6, Pick 5 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick201
Rnd6
Clay Webb
They left a pile of value on the table to take Clay Webb this early at pick 201. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick215
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
You do not let a running back like Ollie Gordon II reach pick No. 215 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Pick220
Rnd7
Brant Kuithe
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brant Kuithe. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick253
Rnd7
Shaun Dolac
Shaun Dolac in the 253rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
