Dukez2020 DRAFTING FOR THEChargers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Chargers. The Chargers clearly saw something nobody else did in Dayon Hayes, taking him 130 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Royals. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In slot 22 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
The board had cheaper options than Tate Ratledge at pick 55, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick86
Rnd3
Jalen Royals
Circle this one: Jalen Royals at No. 86 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick125
Rnd4
Terrance Ferguson
A tidy bit of business in the 125th pick, where Terrance Ferguson graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick158
Rnd5
RJ Harvey
A straight-up fair deal on RJ Harvey at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick181
Rnd6
Dayon Hayes
Dayon Hayes at the 181st overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick199
Rnd6
Drew Kendall
A wild overpay on Drew Kendall in pick No. 199, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick209
Rnd6
Cam Jackson
A big swing on Cam Jackson at the 209th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick214
Rnd6
Karene Reid
Nice patience on Karene Reid, who had no business lasting to No. 214. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick256
Rnd7
Jabbar Muhammad
They robbed the room for Jabbar Muhammad here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
