Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Chargers, and a B- to prove it.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Chargers spent Round 6, Pick 38 on Cooper Mays, a name the board had a full 96 spots lower.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Noel. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Derrick Harmon
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick55 Rnd2 David Walker
This one needs a full-page explanation: David Walker in the 55th overall pick, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick86 Rnd3 Terrance Ferguson
They talked themselves into Terrance Ferguson at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jackson Slater
A big swing on Jackson Slater at No. 125, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick158 Rnd5 Jaylin Noel
Jaylin Noel in the 158th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick181 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
They paid sticker price for JJ Pegues in pick 181, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick199 Rnd6 Jack Kiser
The board fumbled Jack Kiser all the way to the 199th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick209 Rnd6 Jaydon Blue
Taking Jaydon Blue in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick214 Rnd6 Cooper Mays
Cooper Mays in pick 214 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick256 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
They reached into another round for Thor Griffith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
