Draft Grade — Lions
Overall

ValueB
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Lions a B. The Lions let the board come to them and it handed over Dallas Turner in the 30th overall pick, comfortably the best value of their weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Mahogany to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
Value with a capital V on Dallas Turner in the 30th pick, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick62
Rnd2
Josh Newton
Josh Newton at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick73
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
They jumped the gun on Christian Mahogany, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick93
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson at pick 93 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick167
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 31 is lovely value for the linebacker. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick208
Rnd6
Roger Rosengarten
Nice patience on Roger Rosengarten, who had no business lasting to pick No. 208. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick251
Rnd7
Evan Williams
Evan Williams at slot 251 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
