You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Lions did exactly that with Patrick Payton in slot 203. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

Landing McAlister that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most. The back end got a real overhaul.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
