The 49ers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Roman Hemby at No. 249 regardless, 108 picks early. Call it a C- and check back in two years.

However the rest shakes out, Branch at that price is a win they earned. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
