FutureB-
The 49ers lost the trade table, and the C- tells the story. The 49ers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Roman Hemby at No. 249 regardless, 108 picks early. Call it a C- and check back in two years.
However the rest shakes out, Branch at that price is a win they earned. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
So much rides on Kenyon Sadiq that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In slot 28 they get a mismatch in the passing game, and a steal at that.
Pick45
Rnd2
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Emmanuel McNeil-Warren. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
No drama and no debate, Jake Slaughter went about where he belonged in the 59th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick92
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
Circle this one: Zachariah Branch at No. 92 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick127
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
A tidy little value on Davison Igbinosun in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick153
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
Kevin Coleman Jr. at Round 5, Pick 15 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick160
Rnd5
Jalen Farmer
Jalen Farmer at the 160th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick165
Rnd5
Kaleb Elarms-Orr
Kaleb Elarms-Orr in pick 165 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick187
Rnd6
Toriano Pride Jr.
Toriano Pride Jr. in the 187th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick249
Rnd7
Roman Hemby
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Roman Hemby well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
