ChiCity DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Bears. For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Bears walked out of the weekend still thin at running back, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They are betting Sheppard proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Johnson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In pick No. 20 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Mykel Williams
Mykel Williams at the 33rd overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick52
Rnd2
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton in Round 2, Pick 20 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick84
Rnd3
Clay Webb
They paid sticker price for Clay Webb in pick 84, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110
Rnd4
Wyatt Milum
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Wyatt Milum. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick116
Rnd4
Rylie Mills
They took Rylie Mills at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick148
Rnd5
Will Sheppard
Will Sheppard in the 148th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick180
Rnd6
Hunter Wohler
Hunter Wohler in slot 180 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick182
Rnd6
Thor Griffith
They jumped the gun on Thor Griffith, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
