Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The 49ers clearly saw something nobody else did in Jake Majors, taking him 31 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

Mickens at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Kelvin Banks Jr.
In the 11th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Derrick Harmon in the Round 2 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
A real head-scratcher, Zy Alexander in slot 75 is miles ahead of his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick100 Rnd3 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at the 100th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick113 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in No. 113 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick138 Rnd4 Kobe King
They let Kobe King come to them and pounced at pick No. 138. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick166 Rnd5 James Burnip
Fair-plus on James Burnip, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick175 Rnd5 Clay Webb
A premium they did not need to pay, Clay Webb a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
They paid sticker price for Cam Jackson in slot 223, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick227 Rnd7 R.J. Mickens
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with R.J. Mickens worth more than the price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick234 Rnd7 Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks at pick 234 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick236 Rnd7 CJ Dippre
CJ Dippre in the 236th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick241 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
Good price on Isaac TeSlaa in Round 7, Pick 25, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick249 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
The board had cheaper options than Torricelli Simpkins III at pick No. 249, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick252 Rnd7 John Williams
They liked John Williams enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 252. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
