Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall C
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Seahawks got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Seahawks did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.

Getting Hampton where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Hawes reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.

If Tyler Warren and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick34 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
The board had Tyler Warren higher than slot 34, and the tight end fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Booker. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick45 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
They barely believed it either: Malaki Starks still on the board at the 45th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick50 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in the 50th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick52 Rnd2 Bradyn Swinson
A straight-up fair deal on Bradyn Swinson at No. 52, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick61 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
They liked Maxwell Hairston enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 61. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick82 Rnd3 Deone Walker
No drama and no debate, Deone Walker went about where he belonged in pick No. 82. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick92 Rnd3 Charles Grant
No edge and no loss on Charles Grant in Round 3, Pick 28; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick99 Rnd3 Savion Williams
Savion Williams at No. 99 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick124 Rnd4 Tory Horton
Tory Horton slid further than he should have, and slot 124 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick128 Rnd4 Kobe King
Kobe King at the 128th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick137 Rnd4 Cobee Bryant
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Cobee Bryant for less than the market said. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick148 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
A clean, defensible pick in the 148th overall pick with a little surplus value in Tyler Shough. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick179 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson in pick 179 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223 Rnd7 Caleb Ransaw
Caleb Ransaw at pick No. 223 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick234 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Value said wait; Jackson Hawes in Round 7, Pick 18 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
