McDonald should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a A-.

The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: Kayden McDonald, the No. 31 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 251 like a gift left on the doorstep. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want. The Chiefs clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
