Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Commanders robbed the room for Jackson. Final grade: A.

When a board-topper like Khyree Jackson slides to pick 138, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The cost of the Barner reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Joe Alt and all.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Joe Alt
Joe Alt at the Round 1 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick34 Rnd2 Taliese Fuaga
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Taliese Fuaga at No. 34 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick36 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
By-the-book stuff, Chop Robinson at the 36th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick38 Rnd2 Kamren Kinchens
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kamren Kinchens in the 38th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick40 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They paid up for Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick 40 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67 Rnd3 Bralen Trice
You do not let an edge rusher like Bralen Trice reach pick No. 67 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A slide stopped in slot 75, with Jeremiah Trotter Jr. worth more than the price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick101 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Somehow Johnny Wilson was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 1, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick103 Rnd4 Josh Newton
Taking Josh Newton in pick No. 103 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick104 Rnd4 Jalen McMillan
Jalen McMillan in No. 104 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick106 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
A tidy bit of business in the 106th overall pick, where Zak Zinter graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138 Rnd5 Khyree Jackson
They barely believed it either: Khyree Jackson still on the board at slot 138. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick181 Rnd6 AJ Barner
They jumped the gun on AJ Barner, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick220 Rnd6 Brevyn Spann-Ford
A straight-up fair deal on Brevyn Spann-Ford at the 220th pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the quarterback. A need, and now a little less of one.
