Draft Grade — Colts

The Colts kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Colts did exactly that with Gentry Williams in Round 7, Pick 15.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Simon. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.

On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most. The back end got a real overhaul.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
In the 14th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick45 Rnd2 Harold Fannin Jr.
The board had Harold Fannin Jr. higher than the 45th pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick81 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
You do not let a running back like Dylan Sampson reach pick No. 81 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick117 Rnd4 Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman in slot 117 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick152 Rnd5 Smael Mondon Jr.
They robbed the room for Smael Mondon Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick190 Rnd6 Cody Simon
They barely believed it either: Cody Simon still on the board at pick 190. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick229 Rnd7 Gentry Williams
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Gentry Williams well ahead of where he belonged. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
